On Thursday, The Together Plan’s representatives in Minsk attended a Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration at the Beis Isroel Jewish Religious Community, an Orthodox Synagogue in Minsk. Frida Reisman, chairwoman of the Minsk Ghetto Survivors’ Association, attended and gave a speech at the commemoration. Frida has an incredible story to tell and has devoted great effort to make sure her story, and those of millions of other Jews – both survivors and victims of the Holocaust – are not forgotten, and we are very lucky that we could mark Holocaust Memorial Day with her.
The commemoration was also attended by the recently appointed Charge d’Affaires at the Israeli Embassy in Minsk Yakov Abrahabi, the German Ambassador to Belarus Peter Detmar, and Rabbi Daniel Berzaner of the Beis Isroel Community, who led a commemorative service at the synagogue. There was also an art exhibition by artist Zubritsky – himself a resident of Minsk during the war, having lived there since moving from near Moscow in 1933.
