Clothes, shoes, toys, blankets, bags, belts, hats and scarves, all collected, donated, sorted and packed in the UK by our dedicated team of volunteers travel by road to Belarus. There they are stored in our warehouse in Minsk and from there we distribute to Jewish and non-Jewish communities around the country. In the last week, the Polotsk community (in the north of the country) sent a van on a round trip to make a collection in Minsk. The weather was very cold, there was snow on the ground and the conditions were icy, but our team were on hand to load donations including nursery items, as the community has a new baby. Meanwhile, ghetto survivors were happy to be able to help unload at the Daumana Street Synagogue in Minsk, in preparation for distribution to other survivors and their families. Having the opportunity to be actively involved in the project and not simply by being recipients, is for them very empowering. This is why we love being the ‘together’ plan.
